Otherwise known as the ‘Hampton’ profile, Shaker cabinets are timeless for a reason—their enduring popularity over the past century can be attributed to the clean, simple, and overall straightforward design that seamlessly blends in with almost any kitchen aesthetic. Easily lending it’s elegant style to all areas of the home, your Shaker cabinetry will bring a warmth and character to your living areas, bedrooms and even wardrobes and laundries.
This bespoke profile demands excellence
Incorporating natural materials – think wood, stone and woodgrain – allows you to create a warm, inviting space whilst highlighting the timeless elegance of the Shaker design. Large islands, open shelving finished in woodgrain, glass cabinets with complimentary shaker glass doors, soft under-cabinet lighting, pendant lights and concealed power outlets and appliances all allow your space to be streamlined, refined cosy and welcoming.
Keeping up the minimalist and under stated elegance, think farm style ceramic sinks – oversized, on display and in cream glazed finishes. Tapware designs will vary and will enhance the style of Shaker kitchen you are looking for. From large, oversized – almost industrial – single styles to ‘ye olde’ shapes with separate taps and spout – you will be spoilt for choice. Once you have your design chosen, your next challenge will be colour – black, white, gold, chrome or brushed metal – all with differing tones, finishes and shades. Be prepared to over think your sink area!
Is a kitchen a kitchen if we don’t have stunning benchtops to create, luxuriate and admire at all times? In their own way, they are just as important as the style of cabinetry you choose. Coming in 1000’s of styles, colours and ranges, choosing your benchtops in complimentary tones to your cabinety will be a talking point as well as a visual delight. Think mineral stone or porcelain with a hint of warm tones in either thick or fine veins (creams and browns), hues like beige, gold, and bronze are in demand for their natural and inviting feel or cool overtones of whites, greys and blacks creating timeless elegance.
White marbles, such as Carrara and Calacatta for their timeless appeal and black, green and grey marbles make for bold statements. Moving away from high-shine, glossy finishes finishes in a matte or textured surface create an inviting and lived in feel. Further showcasing the beauty of your stone choice, waterfalls and thicker edges will add a sense of permanence, function and high end design choices.
Want to step things up a notch? Match your splashbacks with your countertops creating a bespoke and seriously sought after design style – this is one way to set you apart from every other Shaker style home. Cohesive and luxurious – you will not regret the extra expense.
Dreaming of a more traditional, welcoming and want to evoke a timeless sense of calm? Think intricate tiled splashbacks such as kitkat or subway tiling in a colour of your choice. Go bold with a colourful tile in a geographical design, or tiles with patterns and designs or understated tones of creams and white in either horizontal subway layout or herringbone patterns. Adding a slight ‘wave’ to a neutral tile will add a hint of texture and interest to your splashback. Want a gloss finish? Choose a tile with a sheen or gloss finish to reflect the light and surrounding colour hues.
Feeling overwhelmed? Pinterest is your friend. Spend hours trawling for styles, colours and designs that appeal to your heart – there is something for everyone.
Designing your Shaker cabinetry allows you to be creative and bold, traditional with a touch of flair or elegant and understated. Colours can be used as a single palette across all the cabinetry, split between upper and lower cabinets or a singular colour applied to an island to really make an impact.
Whites, creams and shades of soft grey create light open spaces for a country-cottage affect. Deep greens and blues used on islands and standalone cabinets create a bold and timeless talking point.
Thinking minimalist, elegant and refined? Be bold, be brave – a soft warm shade of black paired with a warm shade of white will set your kitchen apart from the rest. A bespoke colour pairing, this stunning design choice allows you to incorporate brushed metals in golds for handles, dark appliances creating a cohesive template and stunning stone benchtops and matching splashbacks will be sure to be loved for years.
Playing with colour has never been so much fun!
Due to the quality materials, craftsmanship, and construction techniques required to produce the distinctive style, we are not going to lie – the stunning Shaker style is expensive. Expensive to craft, expensive to refine and expensive to install. The simple yet elegant design demands precision and attention to detail, hand tooling, specialised painting, additional installation on site and overall slower production times.
A true Shaker custom designed home is easy to spot but hard to match.
There are two styles of Shaker profile – the traditional ‘rail and stile’ or the highly sought after ‘picture frame’ design with a fully recessed profile carved into the panel.
Some may prefer the five-piece construction of the ‘frame’ around the recessed centre panel (‘rail and stile’) which is the traditional style when Shaker was first developed in the late 1700s. Traditionally this style is easy to manufacture, construct and less time consuming. Ikea and Bunnings offer this style as it is cheaper and faster to mass produce. Still a beautiful design option for people who love the Shaker style – the timeless and elegant concept translates well.
However, here at the Fox hub, The Foxy Touch team specialise in precise, clean and high end ‘picture frame’ designed Shaker profile cabinetry. In fact we are obsessed with this style – completely and utterly in love.
We have lovingly honed our skills over the years to the highest level we can obtain – spent days and weeks refining our skills, machinery and materials. We custom design each kitchen or area to ensure that your Shaker panelling is stunning, visually appealing in layout and crafted to perfection. Yes – we used the word perfection. Because that is what we aim for with every panel.
Manufactured with superior finish material and increased thickness of the board, the Shaker profile hinges on the clean, precise lines of the recessed panel at 3mm, 4mm, 6mm deep. Skilled craftmanship ensures sharp internal corners, straight and precise edges and a single ‘frame’ style that speaks – no shouts – high end design. Our attention to detail results in a satin finish on the recessed panel – requiring very little preparation for the next key step in Shaker profile manufacturing – the painting. This level of detail takes double the amount of time to design, manufacture and prepare than standard flat finish panels.
Once the cabinetry panels are manufactured, your Shaker panels are finished in high grade 2PAC paint which costs roughly 40% more than a laminate finish. Yes. Roughly 40% more. With a never-ending choice of colours, tones and finishes, you are able to fully customise your cabinetry to your own individual choice. No one kitchen will be the same.
Choosing from matte, satin or full gloss finish, your cabinetry panels are individually hand painted with your colour choices. Literally – go to your local Bunnings, choose your shades, get samples and play! Once you think you have decided on your colour choices, we will personally manufacture a sample Shaker style panel and present you with a finished 2PAC piece of art to take home, admire, tweak the shades or agree with yourself that your colour selection is on-point!
Your colour choices will speak volumes about you! But do not fear – with the stunning Shaker style – you cannot go wrong!
A true installation of a Shaker cabinet requires pre-assembly of your cabinet, full installation onsite with cabinet panels placed, checked for size and precision, aligned and perfected. Then – they are removed!
So – to wrap up – the stunning, effortless design choice of the Shaker style profile appears to be minimalist, traditional and understated. Yet those in the know – such as yourself – understand that a true, bespoke high end Shaker style kitchen shouts quiet luxury and timeless elegance – which comes at a high cost – if done by expert professionals who are passionate about this gorgeous style.
Such as ourselves!
We hope that you now have a better understanding of the sheer level of detail required to deliver a high end, Hampton style, Shaker profile kitchen. This design is not for the faint hearted cabinet-maker, manufacturer or installer – precision and perfection is demanded for this truly stunning style. If there is a design that will surely bring a smile, gasp of delight and a sense of ‘home’ – it’s a aesthetically designed, thoughtfully presented Shaker kitchen.
